We had a bit of a whistle-stop two day trip to Kangaroo Island, where lots of people take a week to explore. We’re very satisfied though, having seen a bunch of great wildlife including three new mammal species. I guess our echidna “completes the set” of iconic Australian mammals: kangaroo, koala, wombat, platypus, devil, echidna.

$Kangaroo Island has some of the most lovely landscape in South Australia, and it\'s definitely the most visited spot in an under-visited state$

Some of the best bits are out at the coast in Flinders Chase National Park

$This is Admiral\'s Arch, probably the most impressive sea arch I\'ve seen$

And these are the Remarkable Rocks, a beguiling heap of abstract granite boulders on the clifftop

$You really can\'t help muttering \'remarkable!\' when you wander among them$

Kangaroo Island is also famed for wildlife, and these are the Kangaroo Island kangaroos (a sub-species of Western Grey)

Safe again, though still cornered, the possum stares at us reprovingly

And young pups of course try to act just like their older brothers

Bleah! That leaf was yucky

We had wildlife in our lodgings when we accidentally chased a Brush-tailed Possum onto the kitchen ceiling where he got stuck

These birds with the snazzy hairstyle are Crested Terns, found on Seal Beach

But of course Seal Beach is most famous for... well, not seals but Australian Sealions

$This fella strides out of the water like he\'s modelling a new swimwear collection$

$\'I say old boy, would you put the kettle on I\'ve had an awfully long day swimming\'$

Almost unique to Kangaroo Island, the Tammar Wallaby. But check out our Western Australia blogs: we also saw them in the last place they live on the mainland

$This fat fellow isn\'t a giant slug, he\'s an Australian Fur Seal. We think...$

This is a New Zealand Fur Seal (more common here than the Australian Fur Seal), do you think the previous one looks different enough?

$The star of the show for us was the Short-beaked Echidna, proving that you don\'t have to be furry to be cute$

$Amazingly, there\'s a Long-beaked Echidna to be found on Papua New Guinea. How much longer could it be?!$

$Our final wildlife sighting was this, the rare Glossy Black Cockatoo. Don\'t ask me why I find the name so funny, I just do$
