Croatia and Montenegro snaps

We squeezed a lot into a few days, no less than three Balkan countries. And I have to say, I’ve seldom seen more photogenic sights in such a short space of time before. This is just Croatia and Montenegro.

We arrived in Dubrovnik at night and were charmed immediately

In the morning we walked the walls, and were stunned

No camera tricks, Dubrovnik is beautiful

Next stop in another country - Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

We found the lovely village of Perast and stopped there

In the evening, a visit to Kotor itself

Slightly less preened and perfected than Dubrovnik, a nice contrast

Lovely to explore

$We stayed until late and saw Kotor\'s walls lit up$

Farewell to Kotor Bay on an eerily calm morning

Hello to Trogir, a beautiful town until an azure sky

The cathedral was an airy delight, well worth a visit

Fascinating and gruesome details

They seem to sell a lot of olive oil at Trogir market

$In the evening we went to Split to see Diocletian\'s Palace$

The undercrofts are all Roman stonework, now housing shops

$A relaxing stroll along the marina in front of Diocletian\'s mighty palace wall$

$I honestly think Diocletian\'s Palace was my favourite place of all$

Dinner in Split at a good seafood place. Squid, anyone?

Next day we found an old Frankopan fortress in the hills

We also explored the sleepy villages of Istria

After the arid coasts to the south, Istria seemed verdant

Inland Croatia is dotted with all manner of old ruins

We returned to Dubrovnik again at night

$It\'s a delight to explore all the little alleys and lanes$

Next day the sea was up and the clouds distinctly moody

$Still time to explore Dubrovnik\'s architecture by daylight$

$There\'s beautiful detail wherever you look$

Including in the market

One more meal, our best Croatian dish was this excellent squid-ink risotto

Farewell Dubrovnik, and the warm Mediterranean sun

Just time to relax with a drink in Cavtat, a harbour only five minutes from the airport
